Alternative Health, Alternative Medicine, Health Foods

The role of nutrition in health was recognized by the ancient Greeks - and probably also much earlier - who advised that food should be one's medicine. Especially Eastern cultures have for more than two thousand years used certain foods (e.g. herbs) as remedy. Clearly these early insights were based on simple observations that nutrition - aside from the obvious need to eat sufficient energy –has a direct effect on the health of the organism.

Increasingly kelp, Seaweed & Algae is now used as a Nutritional Supplements and used in an attempt to Prevent the development of Chronic Disease.

In an publication of the World Health Organisation in 1990 the attention was once again focused on this new chronic disease. Comparisons of population groups had demonstrated a close and consistent relationship between the adoption of this affluent diet/change in lifestyle and the emergence of a range of chronic, non-infectious diseases, such as coronary heart disease, cardiovascular disease, various cancers, diabetes mellitus, gallstones, dental caries (cavities), gastrointestinal disorders, and various bone and joint diseases. There is no real cure for these illnesses other than suppressing symptioms and making adaptation. A other major breakthrough, the understanding how dietary habits of different groups of people related to their degree of health.  Both clinical research and epidemiological studies, which compare the rates of diseases in populations with different dietary habits, point in the same direction.
